IEA
The Institute for Education and the Arts was established in 2002
to promote the use of the creative arts to help teach core academic
subjects at the K-12 levels.
Based in Washington, DC, the Institute is the education
program of the National Music Center and Museum Foundation, a private
non-profit organization operating in association with the Smithsonian
Institution and the Library of Congress. The Institute is a member
of the DC
Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative.
The Institute conducts a variety of programs
that explore and demonstrate how the arts are used as teaching tools
to help students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds become more
engaged and successful in their learning.
These programs are conducted on a community, district
or statewide level and bring together educators, community and business
leaders, policymakers, parents, and concerned citizens to learn
more about the power of teaching through the arts and how to make
this approach a regular part of their children’s school experience.
