The mission of Accessible Arts of Kansas City is to champion the arts for children with disabilities and advocate access to the arts. Online resources include a glossary, “Do’s and Don’ts for Artists and Teachers,” links to other sites about disabilities and the arts, and lesson plans.

VSA Arts (formerly Very Special Arts)

“VSA Arts is an international nonprofit organization . . . creating a society where people with disabilities can learn through, participate in, and enjoy the arts. Designated by The United States Congress as the coordinating organization for arts programming for persons with disabilities, VSA arts offers arts-based programs in creative writing, dance, drama, music and the visual arts. Nearly five million people with disabilities participate in VSA arts programs every year through a network of affiliates in 49 states and the District of Columbia and 64 countries worldwide.”

Early Learning

Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts

Artsplay is the online resource for the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, a national leader in arts education. Activities use the arts to teach social and learning skills to preschool students. Wolf Trap, based outside Washington DC, is the nation’s only National Park for the Performing Arts.

Annenberg Institute for School Reform

The Annenberg Institute “develops, shares and acts on knowledge that improves the conditions and outcomes of schooling in America, especially in urban communities and in schools serving disadvantaged children. The Annenberg Institute works in collaboration with education reform organizations, school districts, school improvement networks, and education funds to develop the capacity of urban communities to build and sustain programs and policies that improve teaching and learning."

Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching is an “independent policy and research center whose charge is ‘to do and perform all things necessary to encourage, uphold, and dignify the profession of the teacher and the cause of higher education.’” Renowned scholar Lee S. Schulman heads the foundation. Online resources include pamphlets, research, and links.

American Association of Educators

The AAE is a nonprofit, national professional association of educators. AAE is committed to providing students with “the best possible education in a safe and uninterrupted environment.”

American Council on Education

ACE, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development

ASCD is an international, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose members span the entire profession of educators—superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members. ASCD addresses “all aspects of effective teaching and learning—such as professional development, educational leadership, and capacity building. ASCD offers broad, multiple perspectives—across all education professions—in reporting key policies and practices.” Online resources include research publications.

BEST - Building Engineering and Science Talent http://www.bestworkforce.org
BEST is a public-private partnership launched to follow through on the September 2000 recommendations of the Congressional Commission on the Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering and Technology Development. BEST sought to “convene the nation’s respected practitioners, researchers and policymakers and identify “what’s working” across the country to develop the technical talent of under-represented groups in pre-K through 12, higher education, and the workplace.” Three reports were published online in 2004.

Annenberg Media's multimedia resources help teachers increase their expertise in their fields and assist them in improving their teaching methods. Many programs are also intended for students in the classroom and viewers at home. Look at "The Art of Teaching

National Art Education Association

The goal of the NAEA is “to promote art education through Professional Development, Service, Advancement of Knowledge, and Leadership.” Membership includes over 22,000 art educators from early childhood through university, administrators, museum educators, as well as art suppliers, parents, and those concerned about quality art education in schools.
