in Ohio
2005 - 06
Overview
The Institute is organizing the National
Overture of Education and the Arts in Ohio, in partnership
with the State Department of Public Education and the Ohio Arts
Council, and in close cooperation with local educators, arts and
cultural organizations, business and civic leaders and public officials.
Planning and research are now underway for a multi-phased program
in 2005.
The National Overture in Ohio is designed
to demonstrate multiple ways that schools and communities can help
meet local standards and needs; to generate professional development
programs for educators and artists; to develop broad community support
for sustained use of this teaching approach; and to help marshall
local, regional and national expertise and resources in support
of high quality education.
The National Overture of Education and
the Arts in Ohio was formally announced in October 2004 and
will include a pilot programs in the communities of Stark County
and Columbus.
The Institute for Education and the Arts hired
a local coordinator in each of the two initial communities working
in partnership with IEA. These local coordinators assisted IEA in
identifying the key groups, organizations and individuals of each
community and to assure that all sectors of the community were involved
from the outset and helped establish advisory groups for each community.
