| National Overture
of Education and the Arts in Stark County, Ohio
On October 7, 2004, Stark County held its first Advisory
Committee meeting, followed by an opening luncheon and presentation.
In the weeks following this kick off activity, the community conducted
awareness and leadership building sessions with its educational
leaders and school building administrators. In February of 2005,
a program development meeting was held in Washington, DC, for a
group of Stark County educators and the Library of Congress.
The Stark County Advisory Committee met three times
in Spring and Summer of 2005, formalizing a three year plan and
specifically focusing on the tasks and impact for activities this
year.
The National Overture of Education and the Arts
in Ohio was planned for the week of October 10-13, 2005 in
Stark County.
This National Overture built upon an existing
Stark County Educational Service Center professional development
day for all public school educators in the county and the selection
of Arts in the Picture of All Education as the countywide education
theme for the school year.
The complete National Overture program for
October can be accessed here.
After the October National Overture events, the Advisory
Committee, the Stark County ESC and additional newly recruited community
members began planning a second stage to the National Overture to
occur in Spring 2006.
