Keeping Score Project
The Institute for Education and the Arts was
a founding consultant for the San Francisco Symphony's Keeping Score
Project.
Keeping Score offers teachers at all levels opportunities
to learn about classical music and its connections to the core curriculum.
Beginning with a week-long Summer Institute at Davies Symphony Hall,
teachers work with a variety of arts educators and orchestral musicians
to design and implement integrated lesson plans.
Keeping Score Education builds on Michael Tilson Thomas’s
approach to music as a vital component of the broader human experience.
The unique qualities of classical music—its ability to express
the grandest ideas as well as the most subtle emotions—offer
teachers a powerful tool with which to enhance student learning
throughout the curriculum.
Currently, Keeping Score is partnering with school
districts in Fresno and San José, California and Flagstaff,
Arizona.
